Etiology of Urolithiasis from South Indian Population: Correlation of Recurrence and Antibiotic Resistance to Biofilm Production Capabilities of Uropathogenic Microbes

چکیده
Kidney stone formation is one of the most painful and widespread urological disorders. In this study, the prevalence of renal calculi in relation to urinary tract infections was investigated in 125 patients from Southern India. The chemical composition and bacteriological study of pre, post operative urine samples and stones was performed to clarify the relationship between urinary tract infections and stone formation. Commonest pathogens recovered by bacteriological analysis were identified as E.coli (38.1%) followed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (33.3%), Proteus mirabilis (12%), klebsiella pneumonia (10%), Enterococci (4.5%) and coagulase negative Staphylococcus (2.4%) and were further confirmed by16S rDNA sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. The isolated organisms were tested for antibiotic sensitivity and the resistant strains were additionally screened for biofilm formation. We hypothesize that, recurrent renal calculi formation may be attributed to antibiotic resistant biofilm forming urinary tract infections along with environmental habitats.

Evaluation of Antibiotic Resistance and Biofilm Formation Ability Uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) Isolated From Pregnant Women in Karaj
Background and Objective: Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) are the most common cause of urinary tract infections. The binding of these bacteria to epithelial cells and the formation of biofilms cause these bacteria to be further colonized and difficult to remove in the urinary tract. This study aimed to determine the antibiotic resistance and to evaluate the biofilm formation power in Esch...
متن کاملBiofilm and Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase Production amongst Uropathogenic Escherichia Coli Isolates at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Nigeria
Background and Aims: Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) are considered major reservoir for genes encoding antimicrobial resistance. The mechanism of resistance and persistence of UPEC has been attributed to the production of biofilm and Extended Beta Lactamase (ESBL). This hospital-based prospective study determined how biofilm and ESBL production facilitate antibacterial resistance amongst ...
متن کاملCorelation between antibiotic resistans and biofilm formation power of Pseudomonas aeruginosa
P. aeruginosa has been mentioned as the major causative agents of nosocomial infections. Pseudomonas infections are often serious and show different resistance to treatment due to distribution of antimicrobial resistance. Meanwhile, some strains are also able to form biofilm during contamination, which help bacteria to be even more persisyant to yreatment. We examined the antibiotic resistance ...
متن کاملBiofilm Formation, Antimicrobial Resistance and Biofilm-Related Genes among Uropathogens Isolated from Catheterized Uro-Oncology Patients
Background and Objective: Despite the critical importance of catheter as an indwelling medical device, its prolonged utilization in hospitalized patients may lead to infection. This study aimed to identify distribution of uropathogenic bacteria isolated from catheterized uro-oncology patients, their biofilm production, and antimicrobial resistance patterns to generally -used antibiotics. Mater...
متن کاملInvestigation of Biofilm ability by Microtiter Plate Method in uropathogenic Escherichia coli isolated from patients with urinary tract infection with urinary stones.
Abstract: Background and Aim: Urinary tract infections are one of the most commonly reported nosocomial infections caused by colonization of E. coli in the mucosal epithelium and in the formation of microbial biofilms, which damage the host tissue. The aim of this study was to determine the amount of biofilm formation of uropathogenic E. coli based on urinary tract stones of people with urin...
